With the constant stream of negative news from airlines like soaring jet fuel prices and Quantas’s recent major scare, it is nice to hear that there are still some things going right in the friendly skies. Read more to catch up deals and new routes with Vueling, EasyJet and Clickair.
Vueling takes on Clickair
Speculations about Vueling and Clickair merging are no longer mere speculations. Vueling will absorb Clickair to become the third largest airline in Spain. The merger is a result of stiff competition and dismal fuel costs. Barcelona will remain the base of Clickair of whom Iberia owns 80%. Look for Vueling to begin to try to unseat Ryanair and EasyJet as the popular low cost carriers.
From Manchester to Bansko by EasyJet
EasyJet has just brought Manchester one step closer to skiing hols in Bansko and the French/Swiss Alps. Easyjet’s new route from Manchester to Sofia opens on 11 December. The following day Easyjet will begin service from Manchester to Geneva.
iPhone innovations at BA
BA has just announced that their customers can book flights from iPhones. BA’s technical staff have created an innovative new technology that enables iPhone users to view flight schedules in real time and make reservations.
Cathay passes rising fuel costs to consumers
Financial concerns are spreading like the common cold amongst the world’s airlines! Cathay’s answer is to increase the price of business and first class fares by up to 15% on flights between London and Hong Kong.

The good thing about the way Cathay compensated for fuel hikes is that it doesn’t effect me, the economy flier, the common person. It is normally the poor and middle class that always suffers the most when a recession looms, so I am glad this is one instance where I won’t feel the pinch, that is of course if I ever fly with Cathay!!
I just heard today that BA are taking over Iberia so how will that affect the Clickair/Vueling take over? Will we have a low cost BA back in Fuerteventura

I hope Vuelling do manage to compete with Ryan Air on cheap flights.
I flew with Vuelling recently and the service was great, so much better than Ryan air – you’re even allowed to choose your seat in advance, very easily on their website. Imagine that !
