BAA Sells London Gatwick Airport for £1.5 Billion
The UK’s Competition Commission declared last year that BAA (majority owned by Spain’s Ferrovial) must reduce its holdings in the UK. Gatwick is the first of BAA’s airports to be sold with London Stansted and either Glasgow or Edinburgh to be sold in the next five years. Gatwick is now in the hands of the Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) who also own London City Airport. GIP is a consortium with names like Credit Suisse and General Electric on its roster. Ferrovial was under immense pressure to sell Gatwick for £1.5 billion only three years after it bought Gatwick for £10.1 billion.
